Gospel in the Workplace
LinkedIn: A Tool for Serving
LinkedIn – a business-oriented social networking site – can also serve as a “barrel of meal” in times of drought as well as in times of plenty. And, just as the widow needed to serve Elijah first before she could be served, so too can we use LinkedIn to serve our fellow men and women in business. If we serve first, then we will enjoy the fruits of solid, professional connections in times of trouble and challenge.
Can we show our symbol of faith at work?
Many of my Christian colleagues in the workplace represent their faith by wearing an emblem around their necks depicting the death and suffering of the Savior upon the cross. Other colleagues who are the Sons of Judah often showcase the “Star of David” in reference to the covenants the Lord made with King David regarding His chosen people.
As Latter-day Saints in the workplace, how can we show our symbol of faith? Perhaps we should first ask: what is our symbol?
Shielding your business against economic crisis
Perhaps one of the most popular characters in the Book of Mormon, Captain Moroni takes center stage in the forty-third chapter of Alma as he prepares his soldiers to defend their liberties, lives and religious believes against the Lamanites. After consulting with the Prophet Alma, Moroni employs both offensive stratagems and defensive maneuvers to protect [...]
General Conference at Work
This weekend I wasn’t able to enjoy General Conference from home as I would have liked. Still wanting to take in conference addresses, I decided to spend each day this week listening to a different session in my office. In addition to the outstanding counsel offered by Church leaders, the Spirit has really been introduced [...]
Does your company’s strategic plan include God?
Does God go with us to work?
In 11th year of the reign of judges, a cry of war disrupts the years of peace between the Nephites when the Lamanites destroy the city of Ammonihah and everyone in it (as recounted in the Book of Mormon). The Lamanites continue a pathway of devastation to the city [...]
Scriptures in the Workplace: Called to Serve…at Work?
In recent conversations with fellow Mormons in business (MIB’s), the topic of sharing the gospel at work – as it relates to positions of power – came up.
“As a manager, I feel uncomfortable with sharing my beliefs with my staff,” says sister MIB (name withheld). “It could come across as too overbearing.”
“I don’t feel it [...]
I am an American
Also from our September Mormons in Business event, Speaker Larry Powers wished to share with us the following patriotic tribute. And on this the 11th day of September, the 7th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that changed a nation. We could think of nothing more fitting to post.
Humility in the Workplace…Weakness or Strength?
Humility in the workplace – and in life for that matter – is a difficult attribute to hold onto in my line of work. First, I enjoy the spotlight. Now I say this with a disclaimer: I am shy…I just hide it well.
Second, I enjoy attention – especially positive – but like P.T. Barnum [...]
Mormon Cinema
I was reading this blog article about Mormon Cinema. I thought the article, perhaps unintentionally, made an excellent argument about smart niche marketing.
In the piece it mentions that some LDS films were produced for a budget of $7 million. They suggest that budget is equivalent to a $700 million budget for a film made in [...]
